DStv and GOtv wish to inform its subscribers that Metro TV (DStv Channel 277), GTV (DStv, Channel 278) and TV3 (Channel 279) will not be able to show any live World Cup matches on DStv and GOtv platforms in accordance with FIFA contractual regulations with the Free to Air stations mentioned.
Other programs on these free to air channels will however not be affected.
SuperSport, the channel of champions, has pulled out all stops to ensure that DStv and GOtv subscribers don’t miss a moment of the action on their television screens and DStv will boast of two (2) 24-hour channels – one in HD (SS3HD), one in SD (SS3) – for the duration of the tournament.
For the eight matches that run concurrently, in the last-round robin stage, SS2HD and SS4 will feature all these fixtures. GOtv will also screen one live match a day.
Supersport will also produce talk shows that will feature in-depth analysis of the games, players and highlights. Global icon Ryan Giggs is just one of many experts who will share his insights, alongside additional football heavyweights; Sammy Kuffour, Jay Jay Okocha, Sunday Oliseh, John Barnes and John Dykes.
Their analysis will blend with five embedded SuperSport crews who will track the progress of African powerhouses Ghana and Nigeria, among others.
As a bonus, SuperSport will also produce four magazine shows, each of a different flavour:
“Ola Brazil” will be hosted by football fundi Carol Tshabalala live from Rio de Janeiro every Saturday and Sunday with a lifestyle slant offering rich behind-the-scenes content.
“We are Brazil” will be a precursor to weekend matches with intermittent crossings to Brazil and areas of Africa. One of the highlights is sure to be Andy Townsend’s expert insights.
“Master Plan” is unashamedly aimed at the football intellectual; the fan who wants to know about game strategy and the science behind performance.
Finally, “Fan Zone” is a one-hour weekend show aimed at the youth, comprising a strong social media element.
SuperSport’s coverage and “We are Brazil” theme will be a multi-platform offering with TV, Online (www.supersport.com), social, and for subscribers with the Explora decoder, watch out for the Catch-Up services all featuring great FIFA World Cup highlights.
