Merck, the German pharmaceutical, chemical and life science company, has opened its new office in Accra.
The ceremony was held at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel and graced by the German Ambassador to Ghana, Mr. John Ruediger, amongst other prestigious practitioners from the health sector.
The office is the company’s first in West Africa and part of its strategy to grow a substantial market share in the region.
Merck has been active in Ghana for several years through its projects, working with Ghanaian government and international organizations to increase access to healthcare solutions.
Through the Global Pharma Health Fund (GPHF), a charitable initiative it funds, an important contribution has been made towards the fight against sub standard and counterfeit drugs. The GPHF works together with the Accra-based Center for Pharmaceutical Advancement and Training (CePAT).
“Merck unlike other companies think in years and not in quarters like many companies do.” Frank Stangenberg Haverkamp, Chairman of the Family Board of Merck said. SEE MORE PHOTOS FROM THE LAUNCH
The company already has some appreciable investments in Ghana. It has some 26 minilabs, and a compact mobile laboratory for identifying counterfeit medicines.
